Overview

This self-led course provides the New Jersey required 1 CE in Laws and Regulations. Learners will review the pertinent documents directly from the Laws and Regulations section for the Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. The course will break these documents down into digestible bites - after all, the only way to eat an elephant this big is one spoonful at a time. After exploring everything specific to New Jersey's statutes and regulations, students will complete a small comprehensive quiz. A passing grade of 70% is required to receive a certificate of completion.

Learning Objectives

Reviewing legal documents can feel daunting when it's not something that is implemented in everyday routine. This course aims to guide the learner through:

  • recognizing legal terminology and definitions
  • find the specifics within legal documentation while navigating through sections and subsections

Legal Note

Laws and Regulations may be subject to change from year to year. Our course offers an outlook of the most up-to-date information which the public has access to. The New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy is updating the Laws and Regulations section of their webpage. This update has created broken pathways to the information necessary stay up to day. The documents used in this course were pulled from the NJBMBT in 2024. Once the pathway links are corrected, we will update our course content and resources to reflect any recent changes.
Disclaimers
This is an online home study/distance learning course for licensed massage therapists in New Jersey. This course will not be accepted as a laws review for any other state.

Please note this change in education. It may not reflect just yet within legal documentation.
Alert

On July 10, 2024, Governor Murphy signed into law P.L. 2024, c.46 (“Act”), which raised the minimum number of hours of class study required for licensure as a massage and bodywork therapist from 500 to 600 hours. The Act also authorized the Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (“Board”) to adopt regulations implementing the Act immediately upon filing with the Office of Administrative Law for a period of up to 545 days, and thereafter to adopt permanent regulations. The Board is aware that there are applicants for licensure who have completed 500 hours of class study consistent with the requirements in place prior to July 10, 2024, and that there are students currently enrolled in programs that require only 500 hours of class study. To avoid the disruption that requiring these applicants and students to complete 100 additional hours of class study would cause, the Board will issue a license to any applicant who completed or enrolled in a program requiring at least 500 hours of class study prior to the effective date of the Board’s forthcoming regulations implementing the Act, provided that (1) the applicant completes at least 500 hours of class study; (2) the course of study meets the Board’s current regulatory requirements (see N.J.A.C. 13:37A-2.1(d)); and (3) the applicant otherwise satisfies the requirements for licensure. Applicants who enroll in a program after the effective date of the Board’s forthcoming regulations will be required to complete at least 600 hours of class study, consistent with the Act.
