(but not included in this package)

Purchasing this package allows you the opportunity to select:

One 4 CE Ethics course
and
One 16 CE Hands-On course

OR

One 4 CE Ethics course
and
Two 8 CE Hands-On courses

On top of the 20 in-person CEs, we're going to provide you access to an online, self-led New Jersey Law CE course.

New Jersey Laws, Rules, and Regulations

This self-led course provides the New Jersey required 1 CE in Laws and Regulations. Learners will review the pertinent documents directly from the Laws and Regulations section for the Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. The course will break these documents down into digestible bites - after all, the only way to eat an elephant this big is one spoonful at a time. After exploring everything specific to New Jersey's statutes and regulations, students will complete a small comprehensive quiz. A passing grade of 70% is required to receive a certificate of completion.

*Students may take this quiz as many times as needed in order to pass.

4 CE In-person Ethics

Instructing ethics in-person comes highly recommended by creator, Jen Carlson. She says that, "ethics and professionalism go hand-in-hand and balancing these two is best handled in group discussion with experienced mentorship."

MMI's ethics model involves working through real (anonymous) client case studies by answering questions that provoke critical thinking and problem solving. The group will discuss various ways that issues of the nature of focus have impacted them whether positively or negatively. The goal, by the end of the class, is for everyone to leave feeling more confident in their abilities to manage their practice more effectively for the benefit of themselves, their employer, and their clients.

Jen has created 4 CE ethics courses with the following focus to choose from:

  • Building Rapport for Client Centered Care
  • Client Outcomes for Therapeutic, Wellness, and Holistic Massage
  • Belief Systems and Professionalism
  • Creating Your Own Policies and Procedures
  • Setting and Respecting Boundaries
  • Creating and Maintaining Healthy Client-Therapist Relationships
  • Understanding Client Values and Emotions

16 CE Hands-On Techniques

Many of the advanced level technique courses that Carlson has created are 16 CEs completed over 2 days or learning and require a prerequisite. There are currently two courses which do NOT require a prerequisite before enrolling.
Keep reading for details on how to choose a course that is right for you.

Day 1 - 8 Hours

Students will have a chance to discuss how their practice has benefited from using the technique of focus in their clinical sequences. We will review topics covered in Intro course and move forward into discussing how these techniques can be used to address common orthopedic conditions and other mildly complicate health history. Lecture topics will include orthopedic pathologies, with discussion on the risks, benefits, accommodations, and application of massage for each. There will be live demonstrations and hands-on practice as we work through sample sequences of the conditions discussed.

Day 2 - 8 Hours

The class will review topics covered in Day 1 and continue to observe live demonstrations. There will be more opportunity for specific question and answer on this day related to real-life (anonymous) client case studies that the students have encountered within their career. The group will use their critical thinking to discuss different ways that they may choose to use the technique of focus to address the same pathologies in various presentations. Once again, there will be ample hands-on practice for the students so that they can re-enter their profession with confidence in their new abilities.

Coaching on technical application and proper body mechanics is major part of Jennifer Carlson's wheelhouse. You can be sure that you are in good hands with Jen and will be guided in the right direction for a successful and lengthy career.
Jen has created 16 CE technical courses with the following focus to choose from:

  • Prenatal Wellness Massage*
  • Techniques for Mental Health Disorders: A Pathological Approach*
  • Advanced Connective Tissue Techniques
  • Advanced Neuromuscular Techniques
  • Advanced Passive Movement Techniques
  • Advanced Percussive Techniques

*Prenatal and Mental Health do not require a prerequisite

Prerequisites for MMI's Advanced Courses

Learners are required to have completed one of the following:

1. An MMI intro level course of the same technical focus
2. A brief meeting with Jen Carlson to discuss base knowledge of the focus technique if previous training has been completed
3. Having graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Brookdale Community College from 2019 to present

If you haven't met one of these three requirements, choosing to take two 8 CE courses is the right path for you!

8 CE Hands-On Techniques

When purchasing this package, you have the option to choose two 8 CE hands-on courses. All of the 8 CE courses that Carlson has created are considered to be introductory courses. While the word "intro" may sometimes read as "beginner", these courses are not to be overlooked.

Jen's introductory courses provide an excellent base to build off of for those who may not feel strong in their anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and assessment skills related to the technique of focus. This style of education speaks not only to those new to the concepts, but offers a thorough refresh to those who have had previous training. Lecture also provides the indications, CIs/cautions, applications, and how to seamlessly incorporate the focus technique into your current sequencing/practice.
Jen has created 8 CE technical courses with the following focus to choose from:

  • Intro to Neuromuscular Techniques for Wellness and Relaxation
  • Intro to Neuromuscular Techniques for Trigger Point Therapy
  • Intro to Connective Tissue Techniques
  • Intro to Passive Movement Techniques
  • Intro to Percussive Techniques
